Social Studies Curriculum Design Intern

What You’ll Do: 
 
We are seeking an intern to join the Product – digital instruction and design team. Discovery Education offers 4 middle school courses that include US History, World History, Civics, as well as World Geography and Cultures. As part of living our values, we strive to provide learning resources to our partner districts and their students that are historically accurate and culturally affirming. You will be involved in the writing and editing process for our middle school Social Studies courses. 
You will:  
  • Edit information for historical accuracy  
  • Create path files 
  • Infuse culturally responsive teaching into Social Studies Techbook 
  • Research and write stories that amplify underrepresented groups 
You may: 
  • Conduct research on elementary Social Studies products 
  • Review state standards 
  • Be involved in the design process for a new elementary Social Studies product 
 

What you can expect from us:  
You will participate in a team, work on culturally responsive teaching strategies, understand how to communicate and complete tasks within a professional setting. 
If the candidate selected is a current student, the offer will be to participate in the Company's Summer Internship Program. The paid internship program is 8 weeks from June 21, 2022 – August 19, 2022. Students must be able to commit to [20] hours/week employment during the internship. 
This is a PAID internship.   
 

Who You Are:   
  1. Professional Experience: Experience tutoring or teaching/student teaching desired 
  2. Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of social studies state standards, knowledge/experience designing lessons/units 
  3. Education: (Working toward Bachelors or Masters Degree) or equivalent combination of education and work experience 
  4. Technical Skills: Experience working in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel), Zoom, Slack 
  5. Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication as well as strong interpersonal skills 
  6. Self-Motivation and Self-Starter: Driven self-starter with the ability to do what needs to be done without being micromanaged; ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks, proactively manage numerous projects, and prioritize competing timelines; demonstrate a problem solving/ solution-oriented approach 
  7. Learning Orientation: Always willing to learn something new, not rigid in beliefs or expectations  
  8. Focus on Diversity: Have a demonstrated ability to understand, accept and engage with people of diverse backgrounds. 
  9. Sense of Humor: Because we all need to laugh sometimes  
  10. Legal right to work in the United States
