Outreach & Accessibility Intern

Bloomington Transit (BT) is the primary public transportation provider in the City of Bloomington. As with other transit agencies nationwide, BT is in the process of envisioning the future of public transit according to the evolving needs of the community we serve by evaluating new technologies and service methodologies. The Outreach & Accessibility Intern will have the opportunity to join the BT team at an exciting time for the agency, and the transit industry as a whole.

The Outreach & Accessibility Intern will report to the Planning & Special Projects Manager, with opportunities to work with staff throughout the agency. The Planning & Special Projects Manager will train incumbent on current services and planning efforts.

Learning Goals

-Develop effective communication skills and strategies to reach a wide range of transit riders of diverse backgrounds

-Understand inter-connected transit service planning objectives

-Perform and report field assessments for the maintenance of an accurate asset inventory

-Research and report best practices specific to the transit industry


No experience required. An ideal candidate has a specific interest in pursuing a career in public transportation, communications, public administration, or public policy. This role benefits from excellent communication and data management skills.
