Architectural Designer

Seeking an architect to prepare building design drawings and perform associated contract administration functions in our Glen Rock, NJ or Southbridge, MA office. Bertin Design Studios provides architectural design for multi-family residential, industrial and retail buildings primarily in New Jersey and Massachusetts. We are affiliated with Bertin Engineering, which provides civil, structural and MEP engineering services, and often collaborate in the site plan and construction document phase. This provides a unique opportunity to have direct input on all phases of the design.


Responsibilities for Architectural Designer

  • Meet with clients to review project requests and requirements
  • Provide clients with suitable design recommendations based on budget, site requirements and current trends
  • Create proposals and budgets with estimates based on cost, time, equipment, construction and labor, etc.
  • Utilize physical and digital tools to gather dimensions and create initial layouts
  • Research and incorporate artistic and innovative elements into designs as needed
  • Draft designs for new construction, alterations and/or repairs
  • Work collaboratively with team members to coordinate project details and ensure the accuracy of early design work
  • Rework and modify design as needed based on client input and management review
  • Verify design specifications align to safety standards and governmental regulations
  • Finalize drafting projects using both 2D and 3D sketching
  • Ensure that all vital project information is recorded and maintained


Qualifications for Architectural Designer

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and 0-1 years of experience for entry-level positions
  • A Master's degree in architecture or related fields preferred for upper-level positions
  • Portfolio of completed design work
  • Ability to read and interpret diverse types of blueprints
  • Working knowledge of and experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • Strong familiarity and experience using physical drafting tools
  • Significantly detail-oriented with the ability to spot and fix potential design flaws
  • Ability to generate and deliver reports to management, clients and team members
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal and customer service skills
  • Self-motivated with proven time management expertise
