Graduate International Student Orientation Leader
Responsibilities
Co-lead a small group of 20-25 new international graduate and professional students during the August 2023 international student orientation for International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). Leaders will be paired and assigned to lead 5 in-person sessions throughout the week of August 7-11, which will include:
- Facilitating ice breakers and social activities
- Explaining general University of Iowa policies and procedures, as trained by ISSS
- Providing a tour to your group of the primary buildings and locations on campus and downtown Iowa City
- Responding to questions from students and referring them properly when necessary
- Creating a supportive social environment within the small group to help new international students make friends and create a social support system
Qualifications
- University of Iowa degree-seeking graduate or professional students enrolled for the Spring 2023 semester who will also enroll in the Fall 2023 semester
- Both international as well as domestic students are welcome to apply
- Must be available for ALL required dates and times listed below, no exceptions
- Demonstrate interest in or experience working with international issues, study abroad, intercultural training, or diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives (domestic or international)
Salary
$11.00/hour

- Leader Training Part 1: 08/3/2023, 9:00am-12:00pm
- Leader Training Part 2: 08/4/2023, 9:00am-12:00pm
- Welcome Session: 08/7/2023, 8:30am - 10:00am
- Small Group Meeting 1 and Lunch: 08/7/2023, 10:00am - 1:00pm
- Small Group Meeting 2 and Lunch: 08/8/2023, 12:00pm - 2:30pm
- Small Group Meeting 3: 08/9/2023, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
- Small Group Meeting 4 and Lunch: 08/10/2023, 11:00am - 12:00pm
- Small Group Meeting 5: 08/11/2023, 11:00am-1:00pm
- Leader Debrief: 08/11/2023, 1:00pm - 2:00pm
