This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Structural Engineer for our Pittsburgh, PA office. Be involved in projects with our Bridge Group and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Assist with performing basic professional structural engineering work including:
  • Development and drafting of plans and details using CAD software for project design documents
  • Field inspection of bridges, sign structures, culverts and retaining walls
  • Preparation of basic sketches and calculations in support of broader engineering activities
  • Preparation of quantity and cost estimates
  • Review of drawings to assure compliance with design intent and specifications
  • Assisting more experienced Engineers with broader Engineering activities
  • Preparation of technical studies, reports, and design document packages
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and work site notebook/logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.
  • Complete training as assigned.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline; a focus in structural engineering preferred.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience; relevant engineering experience through internships, working knowledge/experience, and/or educational projects or studies.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design and practices.
  • Relevant computer program experience.
  • Competent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to express ideas and concepts effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tool.
  • Ability to obtain NBIS certification
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Experience with 3D digital delivery including use of Bentley’s OpenBridge Designer and OpenRoads Designer Software.
  • Familiarity with Microstation.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Interest in cross-discipline training, including highway engineering, traffic engineering and construction inspection.
