Food on the Move Operations Coordinator

oversees public health programs, conducts translational and policy research, and trains students
and public health practitioners. Our rapid and currently growing portfolio includes programs related
to food insecurity, nutrition and active living, hepatitis C virus (HCV), HIV and other sexually
transmitted diseases (STDs), pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce HIV transmission,

Food on the Move (FOTM) is an initiative of RIPHI. Food on the Move’s mission is to make fresh,
healthy food accessible and affordable to everyone. We provide a SNAP incentive to all customers,
bring low-cost fruits and vegetables to the people who need them the most and use data to
advocate for food systems solutions that prioritize low cost, accessible, healthy food.
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Food Access Manager, the Food on the Move (FOTM)
Operations Coordinator will oversee all aspects of FOTM market operations. The Operations
Coordinator will be expected to successfully run weekly markets, typically held 3-4 days per week,
and 1-2 markets per day and complete administrative work associated with market operations.
Some early morning and evening work will be required. The position includes driving a van with a
trailer; applicant’s willingness to train to drive the vehicle is essential.
Responsibilities:
Manage market operation duties such as:
• Stocking the mobile trailer with produce
• Unpacking, displaying produce and breaking down the market in compliance with market
protocols
• Using the Point of Sale (POS) system to manage, track and report pricing and inventory
• Continuous quality improvement of market procedures and troubleshooting any issues
related to operations
• Driving the truck and trailer
• Providing excellent customer service
• Oversee cash deposits on a weekly basis
• Manage and ensure quality of weekly produce inventory
• Ensure the Food on the Move trailer and van are in good working order, coordinate
maintenance and repair when needed
• Maintain up to date licenses, permits, and registrations for the mobile market
• Recruit, supervise, and train for Market Team Members
• Work closely with and maintain open and clear communications with Food Access Manager,
other RIPHI staff, and members of the executive team
• Implement and enforce all COVID-19 safety protocols
• Oversee weekly produce waste reporting
Maintain business and program operations:
• Ensure day to day objectives of FOTM’s strategic priorities and grant deliverables are being
met
• Work with RIPHI’s research and evaluations team and contribute to programmatic and
research goals of Food on the Move
• Identify ways to improve equipment, operations, and customer experience
• Develop strategies to ensure consistent sales while also achieving excellent customer
service and advancing Food on the Move’s mission
• Maintain relationships with housing site Resident Service Coordinators and serve as a
liaison between RIPHI and the market sites
• Create market and staff schedules
• Develop and monitor adherence to business protocols
• Ensure markets are merchandised and marketed according to community need
• Organize & attend regular FOTM Team meetings
• Coordinate day-to-day financials and HR procedures with Senior Accountant
The Operations Coordinator position is subject to change over time given the needs of
the organization.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience managing a complex program and supervising staff
• Experience in grocery industry, business operations, and/or distribution desirable
• Experience developing policies and procedures for business management
• Direct customer service experience, and a customer-oriented focus
• Available to work a schedule based on needs of client sites, potentially including evening
hours
• Professional demeanor and ability to represent RIPHI with partners
Education & Experience Requirements
- Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• At least 1 year of operations management experience
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record and be able to drive a large
van and hitched trailer
• Positive, can-do attitude
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to troubleshoot problems, even when in unfamiliar situations
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and POS technology
• Big picture mentality to understand the many facets of FOTM
• Passion for the mission and goals of both Food on the Move and the Rhode Island
