AmeriCorps VISTA - Community Health
This VISTA project will connect with populations in Old Brooklyn that are under-engaged. By first defining and understanding under-engagement and then developing relevant outreach strategies to reach those most in need, the VISTA will expand the work of prior VISTAs to increase volunteer engagement and outreach mechanisms. OBCDC will use this information to share their community services to a wider audience, including SNAP education, housing affordability programs, and food access initiatives.
From transit options, to the food you eat, to the places you call home, community health is the intersection of different disciplines coming together that impact a person’s overall health and wellbeing. The most important aspect is the community members we serve, through volunteer programs, skill building, educational opportunities, and social connectedness through engagement. It is crucial to engage with residents in a deeper, more intentional way.
