Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity (LAHFH) partners with qualified families in Cass County, ND and Clay County, MN to build a safe, decent, and affordable home for their family. With the help from thousands of donors and volunteers, we can carry out our mission of putting God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
The Volunteer Engagement Associate VISTA will be responsible for researching, strategizing, and implementing volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition strategies that enhance the current processes at Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity (LAHFH). The VISTA member will have full support and access to the Volunteer Coordinator and other relevant staff members, or volunteers whenever is needed, but should be able to work independently to execute on high-level tasks. Many members from our local community want to support the mission of LAHFH in any way they can. This VISTA role is meant to design a sustainable program that effectively manages these individuals/groups to add the most possible value to both the volunteers and our organization, so we can continue to grow our community impact. LAHFH has been around since 1991, and in our 30 years, we have built and sold 65 homes in our community and are currently working on 4 more. LAHFH is in Moorhead, MN which is right across the river from Fargo, ND. The Fargo-Moorhead Area offers an abundance of opportunities, whether it is employment, things to do, or opportunities for connections. Plus, we have some of the nicest people you will ever meet! You will find everything from urban night life to outdoor experiences, to family-friendly entertainment. The Volunteer Engagement Associate VISTA will lead LAHFH’s efforts toward a coveted volunteer program that engages people of all ages in our community. By building our organization’s capacity for a sustainable volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition strategy, we will help transform more volunteers into donors and vice versa, which will allow us to serve more families each year. The ideal candidate must be able to take initiative, communicate effectively, believe in our mission, deal with ambiguity, and easily adapt to change. LAHFH has a high potential for growth, and we are looking for candidates who can take our nonprofit to the next level. This position is part of the AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Minnesota Alliance for Volunteer Advancement (MAVA). As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions.
