Student Coordinator - Bepko Learning Center Operations and Tutoring Services: Undergraduate Position F22-SP23

The Bepko Learning Center (BLC) Operations and Tutoring Services student coordinator will be responsible for assisting with the overall operations of the learning center as well as programming and communication involved with the Office of Tutoring Services. A requirement of this position is to maintain a most recent semester and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.


The mission of the Bepko Learning Center is to enhance the opportunities for undergraduate students to achieve educational goals and to assist in their development of academic skills through the guidance of more experienced, highly successful student peers. General Responsibilities

  • Maintain open communication with associate director concerning tutoring and BLC operations
  • Provide input of potential ideas for the development student staff and office operations
  • Communicate and update all progress of projects on Basecamp
  • Provide exceptional customer service each week at the BLC Success Desk
  • Attend all trainings, events, and meetings throughout the semester
  • Assist with other duties as assigned


Marketing and Communication

  • Review and edit communication that is being distributed to market the BLC programs and services
  • Ensure that participants for BLC trainings and events are registered


Logistics

  • Assist with development of and weekly publication of staffing schedules for the front desk and Biology Resource Center
  • Prepare materials for recruitment, training, and other programming, services, and events
  • Verify completion of paperwork and assignments for BLC student staff
  • Collaborate with professional staff on updating paperwork, interview procedures, intake forms, and other needs
  •  Assist with gathering, organizing, and ordering supplies needed for events
  • Monitor resource inventory and ordering supplies or materials needed for the event

Biology Resource Center Tutoring

  • Assist with the development and modification of trainings focusing on BRC operations and best practices in tutoring
  • Analyze weekly student visits in the BRC and provide reports on student utilization
  • Coordinate with associate director to organize tutoring schedules and book rooms for exam review sessions

Tutor Referrals

  • Monitor all tutoring requests and documentation ensuring that students requesting tutors are directed to the most appropriate areas of tutoring and academic support
  • Provide initial contact and follow-up emails for tutoring requests
  • Close tutoring requests that are satisfied, no longer in need of support, or unresponsive
  • Contact course instructors and academic departments for tutor searches
  • Contact departments for tutoring information and stay updated on any changes throughout the semester
  • Update weekly and quarterly reports concerning tutor requests and available tutoring and academic support
  • Process any new tutor applications and work with associate director to see that candidates meet qualifications


Approximate Hours Per Week

20 hours (during fall 2022 semester - spring 2023 semester)
