Naturalist Intern
Education Director seeking candidate in Life Science or Education field
POSITION DUTIES
· Implement environmental education programs for TNFW’s summer activities for a wide range of age groups.
· Collaborate with other program staff to implement weekend interpretive hikes for general public.
· Contribute to nature center exhibits, such as creating new materials for bulletin boards or assisting with maintenance of current displays.
· Assist in the development of natural and cultural history programs for Nelson County schools to address Virginia’s SOLs.
· Assist Education Director in a various tasks such as generating marketing materials (flyers, Social Media announcements, web site maintenance). Assist in video productions of virtual programs and announcements.
· Work at least one day per week at the nature center desk: answer phone calls, offer trail advice to visitors, operate cash register to settle visitor transactions, and handle program registrations.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid Driver’s License
· Attaining, a 4-year degree (B.A. or B.S.) in environmental science or education, or life science.
· Working knowledge of Communication tools, Social Media, Word Processing and Desktop
Publishing Tools and Spreadsheets
· Ability to work independently
· Excellent written and verbal communications skills
JOB INFORMATION
Time commitment: 30- 40 hours a week; hours for this position vary—must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays. Interns will also receive weekly training sessions with trained professionals in various environmental fields. Pay rate $12/hr with onsite housing.
