Viterbo University - WAICU Advancement Diversity Internship

Are you looking for an enriching summer internship experience in the advancement field? Do you want to enhance your résumé with hands-on work experience? Do you have a passion for making a meaningful contribution?
                            
Through the generous support of the Council of Independent Colleges, WAICU is currently able to offer seven summer advancement internships at Wisconsin’s private colleges. These internships are designated for students of color to increase diversity in the advancement field. Student interns receive a $2,000 summer stipend and a $3,000 scholarship in exchange for 400 hours of work over 10 summer weeks. Housing will be provided, if needed, at no cost. Interns gain valuable experience in the advancement field and get a summer of amazing experiences, as well as participate in the WAICU Internship Institute and other learning and networking activities.
                                                                                            
Interns are selected by the hosting institution to which they apply.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
 
To be eligible for the WAICU Advancement Diversity Internship Program, an applicant must:
 
1.    Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at a WAICU-member college or university, which does not need to be the hosting institution.
2.    Be part of an underrepresented cultural/ethnic group or a student of color to meet the diversity focus of this program.
3.    Achieve/maintain full-time status as an undergraduate attending school during the following academic year (NOTE: Students graduating BEFORE the Fall 2022 term ARE NOT eligible for the program).
4.    Complete the WAICU Internship Agreement Form and W-9 Form and commit to 400 hours of service over 10 summer weeks.
5.    Demonstrate an interest in the field of advancement.
 
HOW TO APPLY
 
To apply for any of the WAICU Advancement Diversity Internship Program opportunities, please e-mail your cover letter and résumé to Carrie Stahl, WAICU Director of Communications and Outreach, at carrie.stahl@waicu.org with the subject line “Internship Application – [name of internship you are applying to]”. Please include your anticipated graduation date in your résumé and how you meet the program’s diversity requirement in your cover letter.
 
Students may apply for more than one internship position but must submit a separate cover letter and résumé for each position. Applications must be received by April 15, 2022. However, internship sites may select candidates prior to this deadline, so it is in your best interest to apply as early as possible.

Viterbo University – WAICU Advancement Diversity Internship (La Crosse)

This advancement internship will provide the individual with an opportunity to experience first-hand how an institutional advancement office at a private college operates. The intern will learn the key aspects of strategic planning, major and estate gift planning, and develop a strong relationship with the university’s alumni which keeps them engaged through volunteerism and contributions. The intern will also witness gift processing, software management, and donor relations. In addition, this summer offers the intern the opportunity to participate on three very special projects: assist in the establishment of a Community Relations Office for Viterbo, assist in the implementation of a new scholarship platform, and create a template for an Endowment Summary to be sent to donors in the fall 2022. Internship applicants should have excellent verbal and written skills, and confidence in their ability to communicate with others. Good computer/database skills, as well as proficiency with websites and social media are desired for optimal learning and success. Preferred areas of study: business, liberal studies, or computer science. Although anyone with strong interest in learning the multifaceted roles of higher education institutional advancement may apply.
