Supervisor In Residence

About New Hope for Families
New Hope provides emergency shelter for children and the parents who come with them. In addition, we provide top-ranked preschool for shelter residents and the broader community.

Our Mission:
New Hope for Families helps families gain and maintain stable housing and provides nationally accredited early learning programming aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

About the Roof
The Supervisor in Residence is a member of the Roof team. When a family with minor children faces a housing crisis, like sleeping outside or in a vehicle, The Roof team intervenes with emergency overnight shelter. Families bunk in a locked, private bedroom and share the kitchen, laundry and common spaces with other residents. We provide housing-focused case management designed to help families reconnect to affordable housing as quickly as possible. More than 80% of our families do, and it only takes an average of 90 days. We can shelter 12 families at a time, but also divert many more to other safe situations where they can access a new lease.

About The Job
We are searching for a positive, enthusiastic applicant who thrives on a team and around other people. The best candidate enjoys planning events, is delighted by children, and has an empathetic disposition toward people in crisis. The Site Supervisor in Residence performs two critical roles at the Roof. First, they help plan and implement our family programming like after school tutoring, holiday events, and more. Second, they serve as a cool-headed, responsive presence on site in case of emergencies.

Family Programming
New Hope will provide 20 paid hours of work activities each week centered around family programming. Families stay in shelter for several months at a time and we want to create positive, enriching experiences for them to look back on. Therefore, the Supervisor in Residence will plan and coordinate volunteer-staffed programming like after school tutoring, holiday events, financial coaching, birthday celebrations and more! Most family programming and supervision occurs after school between 4PM and 8PM.

Site Supervision
New Hope will provide a 1-bedroom apartment on site in exchange for this person being home between 10PM and 8AM, 5 nights per week. Another staff member provides evening supervision for the other nights. We merely expect the Supervisor in Residence to respond to emergencies by calling first responders and then a staff member on-call to handle an emergency situation. In addition, the Supervisor in Residence will be available for minor incidents like lockouts or other issues families might have while they get adjusted to life in the shelter. We do not require the Supervisor in Residence to be awake or make rounds, but to be present on-site in case of emergency.
