Title: Development Team Intern – Environmental Affairs
Total Number of hours: 40 hours a week over 10 weeks
Reporting to: VP of Development
Summary: ORPC (https://www.orpc.co/) is in the business of improving people’s lives and their environment through sustainable energy solutions. Working in partnership with communities and all key stakeholders, ORPC provides sustainable energy solutions that combine its proprietary systems with smart grid and energy storage technology to deliver reliable, efficient, and predictable supplies of affordable renewable electricity, generated from local tidal and river currents. ORPC currently has development projects in Maine, Alaska, Canada, Ireland and Chile.
This internship resides within the ORPC project development team. ORPC regularly evaluates relevant marine ecology research to mitigate potential environmental impacts and develop strategies for environmental compliance. ORPC seeks to improve its understanding of endangered species stressors and mitigation strategies for projects of interest. ORPC also seeks to develop a broader understanding on environmental context for projects of interest. The person provides support regarding environmental permitting, market development, and other tasks as needed.
Deliverables include:
1. Beluga state-of-the-science report for Cook Inlet (Literature review, report)
2. Environmental maps for projects of interest (Maps)
Tasks include:
· Regulatory affairs support
o Perform literature reviews to inform regulatory compliance
o Review environmental data and identify existing information gaps
o Review and disseminate State-of-Science reports on environmental monitoring
o Work with team to develop outreach collateral materials for regulator outreach (PowerPoint presentations, handouts)
· Project development support
o Compile environmental data for projects of interest
o Develop maps (ArcMap or ArcGIS online) of relevant environmental data
Qualifications
· Familiarity with geographic information systems programs, ArcGIS online preferred
· Coursework in environmental law & policy preferred
· Coursework in marine science preferred
