Girls First Architecture and Design Instructor
Summary:
The Architecture and Design instructor plans for and facilitates core activities for the Girls First Architecture program for girls grades 6-9. The instructor will work to learn a provided curriculum, and add to it with their own ideas, activities, and experiences. The instructor will also assist in the delivery of all camp-based and leadership-based group activities and may lead their group on off-campus trips or site visits. The goal of the Girls First Architecture and Design program is to expose campers to the design process, teach architectural drawing skills, and work towards the goal of designing a scale model of a dream home or building.
Commitment: This is a four-week seasonal summer position that includes two weeks of in-person instruction, one week of staff training, and 40 hours of pre-season work. All staff must attend staff training on the dates listed in the online application.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience with architecture, design, interior architecture, or engineering required. This position is exempt and may work more than a 40-hour work week. Full vaccination against COVID-19 required.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepares and facilitates program specific curriculum that is experiential in nature; builds curriculum using Girls First activity plans and/or personal curriculum and experiences.
- Works collaboratively with the leadership team to set schedules, determine supply needs, and plan off-campus trips and/or on-campus guest speakers.
- Acts as a role model for campers and encourages their participation and creativity.
- Implements safety guidelines for all campers.
- Supports relations and communication among staff members to promote an atmosphere of support and cooperation in the camp.
- Assists in the delivery of camp-based and leadership-based group activities.
- Writes “camper comments” to be submitted to the Madeira Admissions team upon request.
Other Duties:
- Attends staff training and set-up/clean-up days; completes First Aid and CPR training as part of Summer at Madeira staff training.
- Assists with morning drop off
- Abides by the policies and procedures of The Madeira School as outlined in the Staff Handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
