Infant Mental Health Therapist

Primary Purpose:

 

To work as a member of a team with program staff and community sources to provide a continuum of services to young children and families in an effort to strengthen and preserve families, assist in identifying individual needs, and provide and assist in coordinating services to meet each individual’s needs.

 

Education and Experience Required:

 

1.Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other related human services field required.

2.Current professional license/certification in the State of Michigan is required.

3.At least one year experience with multiple major human service delivery systems (DHHS, public health, education, etc.) is preferred.  

4.At least one year of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of minors is required.

5.   IMH Endorsement Level II or ability to work towards the endorsement.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

 

1.       Must have reliable mode of transportation and must possess a current valid State of Michigan chauffeur’s driver’s license and automobile insurance that is insurable. Must meet SFS and our insurance carrier guidelines for the transportation of children/ clients.  

1.       Basic knowledge of adult mental illness and child development required.

2.       Good assessment skills.

3.       Willingness to provide group interventions required.

4.       Ability to demonstrate commitment, caring and respect for children and adults from diverse backgrounds whom have multiple needs or problems.

5.       Ability to work cooperatively and responsibly as a member of a team with colleagues, supervisors, agency staff and collateral contacts.

6.       Ability to develop treatment plans and coordinate needed services to fulfill plans.

7.       Ability to role model appropriate child-handling techniques to parents and staff.

8.       Development and implementation of Individualized Plan of Service utilizing Person Centered Planning.

9.       Ability to make critical decisions independent of immediate supervision.

10.     Knowledge of community resources and linkages.

11.     Experience with multiple major human service delivery systems (FIA, public health, education, etc.) preferred.

12.     Knowledge of theory and practice of individual, group and family systems treatment.

13.     Competence in the delivery of crisis intervention services and in brief and time-limited therapy.

14.     Must be computer literate.

15.     Good understanding of child development, parent/child dynamics, common childhood behavior problems and appropriate interventions.

16.     Ability to effectively, appropriately, and accurately communicate both orally and in writing.

17.     Ability to meet productivity expectation as assigned by program supervisor.

18.     Ability and willingness to abide by all Starfish Family Services confidentiality policies.

19.     Ability and desire for personal and professional growth, and skill development.

20.     Ability to demonstrate compassion and sensitivity and to respect the privacy and special needs of our clients.

21.     Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

22.     Must have a commitment to the welfare of the children and families the program serves and to the delivery of quality services.

23.     Ability to work flexible hours as needed (i.e. some evenings or week-end work is required).

24.     Must have the ability to work with all members of the community regardless of race, age, sex and cultural or ethnic background.

25.     Must maintain professional and ethical standards.

26.     Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner and develop new relationships with other community agencies.

 

Other Skills and Abilities Required:

 

The employee fulfilling this job is accountable to the assigned supervisor for completion of assignments and to the high standards of accuracy, attention to detail, and timely completion of work. The employee must be willing to engage in professional development efforts as available to the position and required by management.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.       Provide comprehensive assessments and treatment planning with measurable objectives.

2.       Provide support and crisis intervention with families and children involved with the program.

3.       Assist in coordination and referrals of support services to parents.

4.       Provide Outpatient child-centered therapy, parent/child therapy and family therapy services in the home environment

5.       Facilitate parent and child support groups and participate in staffing of the Family Resource Center.

6.       Provide parent education and guidance.

7.       Work cooperatively as a member of a team with program staff and community resources.

8.       Participate in monthly marketing and outreach activities, develop referral relationships with other agencies and maintain those referral relationships.

9.       Provide programming and mental health training to other professionals.

10.     Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to crisis assessments

11.     Maintain client files in order and up to date for the 0-3 program.

12.     Submit timely and accurate documentation of services, billing data and required paperwork

13.     Provide client transportation as needed and appropriate for case plan

14.     Responsible for working with team members, supervisor, child, families and community contacts in a manner that is conducive to the philosophy and mission of the program and agency.

15.     Participate in individual and group supervision

16.     Participate in on-going personal and professional development including in-service training, peer review, external workshops and seminars.

17.     Accept and emulate the mission of SFS.

18.     Assist in finding and directing clients in case of an emergency such as a fire or tornado.

19.     Cooperate in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation or other circumstances.

20.     Attend all agency and departmental meetings and training as required.

21.       Adhere to all Lifespan policies and procedures as it relates to documentation, productivity, training requirements, CMH guidelines, and confidentiality.

22.     Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or other management.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:   The successful candidate for this position will be required to provide 3 letters of recommendation, satisfactorily complete a drug screen, TB test, national and state background check and DHS clearance (additional items may be required dependent upon position).
