Community Assistant

Pierce Education Properties, a dynamic premier Student Housing Management Company, is an established leader in the national management of luxurious student housing apartment communities corporately based in San Diego, California. We are seeking talented, motivated, and growth-minded individuals dedicated to represent our team at The Avenue on College is seeking a Community Assistant for student housing located in Bloomington, In.

Job Summary
The Community Assistant is the face of the property, and should be a motivated, growth-minded representation of company values. They will be available to assist any department in their various, eclectic needs, and be open and willing to participate in maintenance, operational, leasing, and/or marketing trainings and tasks to become a well-rounded representative of their community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model for responsible behavior and personal integrity to our residents.
  • Help establish community norms and ground rules to ensure open and honest communication and responsible student conduct.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to the work of the staff.
  • Know each of your residents personally, and be interested and active in their wellbeing.
  • Constantly work to enhance professional skills.
  • Attend and participate in all in-service training programs, staff meetings and activities, which occur throughout the year.
  • Work an average of 15-25 hours per week, and be available for additional tasks as needed outside of scheduled hours.
  • Community Assistants are on call 24-hours a day. You may be asked to help out during a time you were not assigned duty, in cases of emergencies and special events.
  • Communicate threatening circumstances that could endanger residents or staff when made aware, even if asked not to share (‘duty to report’).
  • During times of staff selection, all staff may take an active role in interviewing applicants as determined by the selection committee.
  • Actively attend retreats and development activities each semester, both with the company as well as local or student organizations.
  • Community Assistants must be willing to assist with in maintenance, operational, leasing, and/or marketing trainings and tasks as needed by the property, and may be required to complete different tasks each day.
  • Submit maintenance requests to maintenance staff in a clear and timely manner.
  • Know and educate residents about the emergency response protocols and procedures. Assume a leadership role in crises.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by staff.
  • Know and educate residents about Property policies, procedures, regulations, and community standards.
  • Submit documentation of policy violations in a timely fashion as required.
  • In all cases keep the Executive Director (ED) informed of behavioral problems and actions taken. Ex. (Suicidal students, sexual assault, eating disorders, etc.)
  • Be a law abiding citizen and an example to your fellow staff and residents. Failure to do this may result in termination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualification Requirements
  • Progress towards a Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Previous Customer Experience Preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Exposure to adverse and varying weather conditions which may include extreme hot/cold temperatures, rain, wind, and/or snow, depending on geographical location. Fast-paced environment requiring irregular and long hours. Exposure to odors/fumes, noise, and vibration. Must be in physical condition to sit for extended periods, bend, reach, climb stairs, and grasp. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must be able to repetitively lift, push, pull & carry up to 15lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
