Assistant Area Director (Graduate Assistantship)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must reside in on-campus provided apartment.
- Daily administrative tasks of the assigned building or complex.
- Assist with selection, training, evaluation, development, support, encouragement, and recognition of student staff consisting of Resident Assistants, Dragon Mentors, and Desk Managers.
- Supervise Resident Assistants/Learning Community Mentors in the areas of student engagement and community development functions.
- Supervise Desk Manager and desk operations in consultation with supervising Area Director
- Train, develop, support, encourage, and recognize student leaders.
- Potential oversight of at least one department wide programmatic effort per semester.
- Serve as a University conduct hearing officer by conducting hearings, investigating alleged incidents, and determining outcomes in consultation with supervisor and/or the Director of Student Conduct and Resolution.
- Serve in an on call rotation three-four weeks per semester.
- Actively participate in department committees/department initiatives.
- Participate in fall and spring training for undergraduate and graduate student staff.
- Be familiar and serve as a leader with Housing and Residential Life Operational procedures - i.e., Housing and Residential Life software, opening and closing procedures, break housing operations, etc.
- Complete responsibilities of the position in approximately 20 hours per week.
- Schedule office hours for students and staff.
- Other Duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed bachelor's degree.
- Admission to a Minnesota State University Moorhead graduate program.
- Enrollment in at least six credits of graduate level course work each semester.
- Must remain in good academic standing.
- Must embrace and exemplify the MSUM core values of Grit, Humility and Heart.
- Abide by University policies and procedures.
- Previous experience as a Resident Assistant or related student leadership type role
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to self-direct and follow through on assigned tasks while working both independently and collaboratively.
- Leadership experience in an area of student affairs and knowledge of residence hall student issues, programmatic functions, and student leadership.
- Previous experience in Residential Life.
- Previous experience with Residential Learning Communities.
SALARY: Furnished apartment, to include major kitchen appliances, local phone service, cable, internet, heat, garbage, and utilities (estimated value $709/month). Semester stipend of $3,500. Nine credit hours of in-state general graduate tuition paid as taxable income.
RELATED INFORMATION: This assistantship is contingent upon satisfactory performance, available funds and vacancies. Successful candidates must successfully pass criminal background check per MN Statute 299C.68.2. There is a possibility that this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment.
