Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Summer Intern

We are a national, nonprofit organization and the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, our mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
The internship program is designed to give you an opportunity to complement your formal education with career-related experience and is open current undergraduates, individuals starting their graduate degree in the fall and graduate students. The internship will provide a stimulating and substantive work experience, coupled with an experience to expand your knowledge and understanding of Feeding America.

The Opportunity
The Intern will be responsible for conducting research and providing technical assistance to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion senior leadership on equity-focused projects.

Internship (12 Weeks):
05/31/22 thru 08/19/22 (40 hrs per week)

Hourly Salary:
$14 – Undergraduate Students
$15 – Students between Undergrad and Graduate school (starting Grad school in the Fall)
$16 – Graduate Students

Responsibilities:
  • The Intern must be comfortable and adept at developing constructive, working relationships with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, lived experiences, races, sexual orientations, ethnicities, national origins, socioeconomic status, age, gender, religion, and other aspects of human diversity.
  • The intern will participate in committee, workgroups, and special projects that promote equity and inclusion. They will be responsible for designing content for online platforms and for developing sustainable ideas to integrate equity initiatives within the national organization and member network.
Requirements:
  • Understanding and sensitivity working with people of diverse identities and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated excellence of English language.
  • Skills (both speech and comprehension), and the ability to communicate effectively in-person, virtually, and in writing.
  • Bi-Lingual preferred but not required.
  • Ability to fulfill duties and responsibilities with a limited amount of direct supervision (after appropriate training), and to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and the public in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to perform work in a multi-task environment, prioritizing needs for efficient and effective service.
  • Must possess basic to intermediate level of computer skills including word perfect/word processing (and other administrative skills applicable to entry-level employment) presentation platforms, and/or graphic design knowledge or familiarity.
