Program Management Services Technician - Office of Oil Spill and Response

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) is seeking a motivated individual to work in the Preparedness Branch. The Management Services Technician performs a variety of the analytical tasks to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the Preparedness Branch.

This includes: maintenance of local databases and organization necessary data collection methods in support of the Branch; processing Contingency Plan drill notification forms; maintaining the Branch Drills an Exercise schedule; and maintaining current budget balances and processing procurements for the Preparedness Branch.

Working Conditions

Telework during the COVID pandemic emergency with potential for a combination telework/in-office schedule in the future. Incumbent can expect some level of office work (frequency TBD) post COVID pandemic emergency.

This work location is very convenient! The position is based at 1010 Riverside Parkway, West Sacramento adjacent to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. The location has easy freeway access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80. Free parking, bicycle cages, electric vehicle charging stations, and locker/shower rooms are available.

Ability to use a computer for several hours a day, operate a motor vehicle and be prepared to travel using a State vehicle.

OSPR is a 24-hour oil and pollution spill response organization. The incumbent in this position can be required to participate in prevention and response training, drills and incidents throughout California, and to be available to deploy/travel with short notice for extended periods (up to 7 days).

Education Qualifications

Sixty semester or 90 quarter units of college

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Special Personal Characteristics: Learn rapidly and follow directions; Willingness to do routine or detailed work in order to learn the practical application of administrative principles. Strong Customer service skills. Willingness to travel and do field work on short notice, work odd or irregular hours; and willingness to wear a prescribed uniform and the necessary safety equipment and work clothing.

Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted at work.

Knowledge of: Arithmetic, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and modern English usage.

Ability to: Use good work habits such as punctuality, skill, neatness and dependability; make satisfactory progress in a prescribed training program; interpret written material; edit written material; write effectively; analyze written and numerical data accurately; make clear, concise oral presentations.
