Residential Positions for Aspiring Educators, Social Workers, Farmers, Artists, and Caregivers
Expand beyond your comfort zone and build your non-profit experience living and working in one of our therapeutic schools or communities. You’ll team up with a corps of motivated people from around the world and learn how to create a more sustainable, inclusive culture together with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, like autism and Down syndrome. You will empower the people you support to reach their potential and contribute to life in a thriving, residential community.
Camphill will train you to be a leader who puts others first and communicates across differences as you develop skills for a career in education, social work, organic agriculture, medicine, or the arts. You’ll hone your ability to observe and listen attentively so you can tune into the needs of neurodiverse people while you work side by side on a variety of practical and artistic enterprises.
Camphill life is every bit (and more) as magical as it looks and sounds - an opportunity that requires patience, perseverance, and working from the heart each and every day. We’ve spent over 80 years growing a model of community that proves that when everyone works together in this spirit, sharing their gifts and stepping up to meet the challenges of the day, all that we give is returned to us many times over in connection, fulfillment, and countless joyful moments.
You can choose from over a dozen idyllic locations across North America - some of them on hundreds of acres of rolling hills, forests, and organic farmland just outside culture-rich towns; others right in the heart of iconic small cities. All strive to integrate into and support their local communities and all are conveniently located within two hours of major cities.
We welcome applicants from the U.S. and around the world to live and work in our communities, so a Camphill experience offers the opportunity to develop lifelong friendships with interesting people from many different countries, backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
During the day, you'll support activities like biodynamic agriculture and forestry; cooking and baking, artisan crafts (woodworking, weaving, bookbinding, ceramics, etc.), drama and music, classroom education, horseback riding, sports, and many other activities. Through a mix of structured training and hands-on practice under the guidance of mentors, you’ll begin to master new skills; before you know it, you'll not only be comfortable with them, you'll be leading others in learning.
At home, you will quickly become part of a warm household community, sharing nourishing meals and helping with the care, beauty, and running of the home. You will help with the health and care needs of the people with whom you live - some very independent and others requiring ongoing support.
Living and working in Camphill offers profound joys and real challenges; for this reason, emotional maturity and health are essential. Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is helpful but not required - we provide plenty of training. You'll soon learn that the folks you support will, in fact, be some of your best teachers.
