INTERNSHIP SUMMARY – Water Quality & Shoreline Access interns support the organization’s OCEAN and ACCESS programs. The Ocean Program works to improve coastal water quality, while the Access program looks to protect and preserve public access to the shoreline. The intern will gain leadership experience in executing community volunteer programs and perform relevant field work in an environmental nonprofit setting. This individual should have an interest in environmental science topics, field work, and/or volunteer management.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -
·       Organize and execute Thursday morning water sampling efforts in Newport and Middletown, RI.
·       Drive the weekly water samples to the Rhode Island Department of Health for testing.
·       Engage with water quality and access volunteers to maintain the status quo of the programs.
·       Assist with monthly shoreline access monitoring in Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth.
·       Perform data entry and assist with data analysis.
·       Assist with the marketing and communications of sharing weekly water testing results on COA social media.
**Some experience with excel is required
 
INTERNSHIP DETAILS –
®   Hours: 10 - 15 hours per week
®   Schedule: Thursday mornings from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.; 1-2 other weekdays to assist with office/field work; some weekday evenings and weekends for events
®   Compensation: Course credit or paid (plus work-related mileage reimbursement)
®   Location: Office located at 985 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown, Rhode Island. Field work at various locations around Aquidneck Island.
