Have you ever secret shopped before? Looking to work part time in between classes or activities or fill some extra free time and looking to promote civil rights? Interested in making fair housing a reality in Central Indiana?

The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) needs a diverse group of dependable, conscientious people 18 years and older to assist in gathering information about housing practices. These persons are commonly referred to as “fair housing testers.” Testers are provided training and a stipend for their time and related expenses. Stipends vary depending on the task assigned. These positions are part-time positions depending upon tests needed and the tester’s availability.
Testers are of various racial and ethnic groups, men and women, over a broad range of ages with and without disabilities. Testers serve an important role in identifying when housing discrimination may or may not be occurring. The testing process has been consistently supported by federal courts as a legitimate and necessary method to identify practices of unlawful housing discrimination.

To participate in our testing program, YOU MUST:
  • Be detail oriented
  • Be a good listener and observer
  • Have a telephone
  • Have a desire to work on behalf of civil rights protections
  • Have a desire to work and interact with, as well as demonstrate respect for individuals and groups without regard to race, religion, gender, color, national origin, familial status, disability, ancestry, sexual orientation, age and/or military service veteran status
You should also have your own means of reliable transportation, although, in limited situations transportation may not be necessary. Due to the potential to be a witness to a fair housing violation, testers are screened for criminal history and any possible conflicts of interest. If you are interested in becoming a tester for the FHCCI, learn more here. Upon approval, you will be contacted to answer any questions you may have and to complete a more in depth application and interview. Please note that testers are considered part-time employees. If you have any questions, contact the FHCCI for additional information (info@fhcci.org).
