Legal Intern
The Office of General Counsel seeks a legal intern with a strong work ethic to assist in a variety of support services in the Office of General Counsel during the summer of 2022. The successful candidate will report directly to the General Counsel. Duties include conducting legislative research, drafting contracts, supervised counseling of clients on issues involving government ethics, learning to review government contracts, and conducting other legal research to support CBO’s analytic activities. Additional responsibilities include drafting legal memorandums and briefs about the significance to CBO of various court decisions, assisting with statutory interpretation, and verifying legal citations in CBO draft reports.
Candidates must have completed their first two years of law school by May 31, 2022. CBO is not accepting recent graduates. The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and complete projects under tight deadlines is required. Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills and be able to perform requested legal and factual research using both electronic and manual library searches. Strong interpersonal skills are a must, and candidates should be able to work independently and as a part of a team. Training or experience in legislative affairs and prior paralegal or legal office experience is desired but not required.
