Human Resources Intern

GENERAL PURPOSE: 
The Human Resources (HR) Intern serves as the initial point-of-contact for the HR suite and is responsible for delivering excellent customer service to employees, applicants and visitors. Performs various new hire onboarding processes; serves as the initial point of contact in the Human Resources Office; is responsible for responding to HR related inquiries in a professional, courteous, complete and accurate manner; maintains and manages various types of HR records.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
 
·        Performs new hire onboarding processes, communicating with job candidates and new hires, coordinating various pre-boarding and onboarding activities.
·        Utilizes the City’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and Onboarding platforms to provide required forms and documents to new employees, such as IRS Form W-4 and direct deposit change forms; routes received paperwork and/or system interfaces to the appropriate individuals and/or departments.
·        Answers employment inquiries; responds to questions and provides information as requested by applicants and new employees.
·        Conducts a variety of general office duties including data entry, filing and copying documents, faxing, supply ordering and inventorying and ordering and preparing correspondence, etc.
·        Assists in ensuring the consistent delivery of excellent customer service to City employees; interacts with employees and provides guidance to a variety of HR questions; receives and directs calls and walk-ins.
·        Communicates in a timely and professional manner with employees, vendors, contractors, applicants and the general public, representing the best interests of the City, anticipating needs, and resolving customer service inquiries and other issues.
·        Takes the initiative to provide assistance to other HR team members as needed. 
·        Provides assistance to other HR team members in updating and maintaining departmental documents including various employee records, forms, logs and spreadsheets, including compensation and benefits administration and recordkeeping.
·        Serves as the primary backup for the Customer Service Ambassador.
·        Assists with special projects, events, and assignments.
·        Assists in scheduling trainings and meetings and booking conference rooms as necessary.
·        Performs other duties as assigned or required.
