Carey - Johns Hopkins Medicine MBA Internship
The Carey + Johns Hopkins Medicine MBA Internship program was developed to provide a select number of summer internships throughout the health system and its affiliated hospitals specifically for Carey full-time MBAs.
Under the close direction of division leadership, selected interns will assume responsibility for operational projects and support leadership initiatives. They will assist in completion of various projects and administrative duties while developing skills related to the healthcare industry.
- Term of employment: 10 weeks, 40 hr/wk
- Location: Hybrid, in person/remote depending on departmental assignment and local health regulations. Please note that interns will be required to be geographically U.S. based for the duration.
- Interns are positioned to add value in the areas of: Strategic Planning, Finance, Data Analytics, Operations, IT/Business Transformation, Clinical Administration, Human Resources, and Telemedicine.

- Financial Analysis Unit - remote
- Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center - on-site
- JHH Telemedicine - remote
- Johns Hopkins Home Care Group - hybrid
- JHM Surgery (based at JHH) - on-site
- Office of Population Health - remote
*Note: Work location subject to change; regardless of location, all interns obtaining work authorization through a visa must be geographically based in the U.S. for entirety of internship.
To give a sense of potential project scopes, past projects completed by MBA interns at Johns Hopkins Medicine (while not a part of this newly formalized program) include:
- Conducting a value stream analysis for a practice related to clinical cost savings, new revenue, and quality improvements resulting in the identification of $375k in savings annually
- Optimizing pharmacy compounding room layout and workflow resulting in increased output during periods of supply shortage
- Auditing Medicare and HSCRC data for quality improvement to increase data accuracy by 20%
- Initiating business development activities, including mergers and acquisitions due diligence, financial modeling, business case development, market research and deal negotiation
- Creating a clinical analytics dashboard, includes analysis on volume of patients, procedural mix, process and outcome KPIs, and measures patient experience
