Summer Internship Machine Learning, Content & Ads

We are looking for Machine Learning Interns to #JoinTheBand and help drive a data-first culture across Spotify. Our Ads Business Unit Machine Learning group works on all facets of the ad experience, from content analysis to timing and relevance optimization to supply and demand forecasting. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from the engineers directly responsible for feature engineering, modeling, backend deployment, decisioning (e.g. auction bidding), and system monitoring/alerting as they pertain to the ads space. Your work will impact the advertising user experience within music and podcast listening sessions and help drive outcomes for our advertising partners.

What you'll do
  • Feature engineering at scale, including but not limited to raw data cleaning, feature preprocessing, and feature embedding.
  • Build, schedule, and improve upon machine learning training pipelines.
  • Learn how to deploy and monitor machine learning models to high throughput backend systems.
  • Work on bidding mechanisms for our ads auction that take various machine learning predictions into account.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of analysts, product owners, marketers, designers, and others across the company who are passionate about Spotify’s success

Who you are
  • You are pursuing a Ph.D. or Master's degree in Machine Learning, Statistics or related field preferred
  • You have a graduation year date of 2022
  • You currently have valid work authorization to work in the country in which this role is based that will extend from June to August 2022
  • You have experience implementing machine learning systems at scale in Java, Scala, Python or similar (not just R or Matlab)
  • You have a strong mathematical background in statistics and machine learning
  • You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation
  • You preferably have experience with data processing and storage frameworks like Hadoop, Scalding, Spark, Storm, Cassandra, Kafka, etc.
  • You preferably have machine learning publications or work on open source to share with us

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location.

  • Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.

Our paid summer internships last for 10-13 weeks and start at the beginning of June. The last day to apply is January 27, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST.
