Social Media Associate

Position Summary

As part of the social media team in the Office of External Affairs, manages the day-to-day activity of the institutional social media accounts by sourcing or creating content for various platforms. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Composes social media entries on institutional accounts to ensure postings align with industry standards; works with various teams to identify content/topics. Researches, conceptualizes, pitches and creates content and layout; edits vertical stories.
  • Attends various WCM events (e.g., seminars, symposiums) to capture real-time photos/visuals for social media content, supporting activities by departments, centers and institutes that demonstrate key strategic priorities.
  • Ideates and executes ideas that will increase social media views, watch-time and engagement; collaborates across Communications & Marketing division to identify story content; oversees freelancers to produce complementary graphics and animations.
  • Manages queries from departments, centers and faculty to promote initiatives; works with colleagues and/or freelancers to enhance content submissions such as modifying photos, videos and animations to be customized for institutional social platforms.
  • Participates in social media campaign planning for awareness days, including brainstorming faculty, clinician or student interviews, tactics and content for infographics or animations; interviews faculty or patients; drafts content for review and approval.
  • Collaborates with faculty, administrators and staff across WCM to understand and help advance their communications needs via social media. Encourages adoption of social media institutional policies and best practices.
  • Monitors social media activity via databases and native platforms for engagement with institutional accounts; serves as social media first responder to engage or amplify content posted by WCM community based on community management guidelines.
  • Monitors accounts for issue management; flags/offers recommendations to address negative feedback; navigates patient complaints to appropriate department/issues management agency. Serves as primary monitor to identify brand conflicts or other violations.
  • Conducts reporting/metrics on social media activity. Assists with creating/setting benchmarks for measuring impact of social media/digital content; compiles data and drafts presentations/reports for campaigns and institutional announcements/initiatives.
  • Organizes and tracks social media oversight queries; responds to social media account registration submissions and implements oversight project management. Coordinates biannual risk assessment meetings.


Education

  • Associate's Degree


Experience

  • Associate’s Degree in media, communications, marketing or related degree.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of media, design, communications or public relations experience.
  • Experience with taking photos and video is a major plus. 
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud is a major plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent high degree of attention to detail, superior organizational skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of major social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking skills and understanding of trends in social media.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a large organization with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with high degree of initiative and the ability to think critically.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituencies and exercise diplomacy.
