Administrative Supervisor

THE POSITION
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill an Administrative Supervisor position in their Central Records Unit. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of Central Records. 

Location and hours: 
This position is at 401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415 in downtown Minneapolis. This position requires working a flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights, on-call, weekends, holidays, and requires being on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and 365 days/year.

About the position type:
This is a full-time, benefit-earning position. 

Effective September 1, 2021, all new job offers are conditional based on the candidate being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means 14 days after receiving the second dose in a two-dose vaccination series approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a full or emergency-use basis, or 14 days after receiving a single-dose vaccine approved by the FDA on a full or emergency-use basis. After a conditional job offer is made, the candidate must show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. A COVID-19 vaccination card from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a vaccination record from your doctor’s office or a personal digital vaccination record constitutes sufficient “proof.” The candidate must also attest they are vaccinated by completing a form on the first day of employment. Reasonable accommodations to this vaccination requirement will be considered upon request by a candidate for medical or religious reasons as required by applicable law.      

In this position, you will: 
  • Manage and review the functions, procedures, and daily operations of Central Records.
  • Select and develop staff, plan and assign work, and evaluate employee performance.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of unit through feedback from other entities, supervisors, observation, and data analysis.
  • Develop goals, objectives, and performance standards consistent with mission of the Sheriff's Office.
  • Initiate and manage projects for improvements and technology.
  • Attend and represent unit at meetings with other agencies and departments.
  • Act as Sheriff's Office designee for expungements.
  • Manage data practices and records retention.
  • Develop and coordinate trainings for new staff and engage in their professional development.

Need to have:
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business or public administration or another field appropriate to the position and two years or more of administrative experience.
  • Six years or more of administrative experience. 
  • The ability to follow the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Appearance Policy.

Nice to have:
  • Three years or more of supervisory experience.
  • State of Minnesota Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate, manage conflict, and collaborate with many different levels of staff.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills to handle extensive contact with staff, law enforcement agencies, crime victims, the judiciary, and the public.
  • Ability to:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with policies and procedures for sharing information with both staff and the public.
  • Train, coach, and mentor employees and build solid team morale.
  • Work independently, think critically, take initiative, problem solve, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize daily responsibilities.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office serves the county's 1.2 million residents. State law mandates most of the sheriff's office duties, including managing the county jail, providing security to the district court, and patrolling the waterways in the county.
