K-6th Grade Tutor

Federal Work-Study Eligible Students!

This position is limited to candidates with a Federal Work-Study award. General Purpose of Position:
Our K-6th grade tutoring program is free tutoring for youth in under-resourced areas around Indianapolis to increase academic achievement. This is a great opportunity for IUPUI students to be engaged with and make a difference in the local community. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic tests.
  • Provide feedback to students, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
  • Teach students reading, math, and test-taking strategies
  • Review tutoring material with students by discussing the text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
  • Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
  • Facilitate tutoring sessions
  • Review tutoring materials prior to the session.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and supervisors
  • The job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
   Must be currently enrolled in courses at IUPUI
   Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
   Must be reliable and able to manage tutoring sessions and students
   Must be willing to learn new skills
   Prepare and implement lesson plans
   Reliable transportation
   

   Preferred Qualifications
   Working knowledge of Google Drive
   Education major, but not required
   Experience working with youth
