Position Title:                  Summer Intern

Limited Duration:           9 weeks, 22.5 hours a week, Monday - Wednesday
Reports to:                      Internship Mentor 

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Job Summary
 
The Summer Intern attends presentations, meetings, and job shadows various positions in departments such as Commercial Lines, Employee Benefits, Claims and Risk Management. The Intern will apply concepts learned to actual projects to gain practical hands-on experience. The goal of the Internship is to build professional skills, business acumen and knowledge of the industry. The Internship introduces the student to multiple areas of the firm so they may explore their interest and best fit for a potential career in the insurance industry.

  Job Responsibilities and Duties
 Essential Job Functions
  • Meets with department contacts and firm leadership to understand nature of departments and firm goals.
  • Attends online intern courses for an Industry Overview.
  • Participates in job shadowing and works on individual & group projects which may include:
  • Sales: Riding along with Brokers to client and prospect meetings, observing Account Managers obtaining quotes and putting together proposals, attending sales meetings, reading key sales material and watching training videos, and participating in Carrier meetings. Projects may include developing a prospecting strategy, researching and developing a prospect list, developing questions for prospects, and developing social media/marketing strategies to learn about brand positioning.
  • Risk and Lost Control: Riding along with Risk Control professionals, participating in safety trainings, and shadowing onsite liability inspections. Projects may include conducting a liability inspection and providing a written report, observing and conducting a workstation evaluation, developing and presenting a safety topic to the team.
  • Claims: Observing and participating in conference calls between P&C Claims, adjusters and clients, participating in a Loss Analysis with Alternative Market personnel, conducting a clinic tour with a Sr. Claim consultant. Projects may include: Helping to develop a Return to Work Program or Training Class for an existing client, coordinating, scheduling and attend at least 3 different claim review meetings then participate in debriefing and providing feedback as to what worked well and what could be improved. Working on an X-Mod (Experience Modification) rating projection project.
  • Provides evaluation of Internship experience.
 Additional Responsibilities
 Other duties as assigned by Internship Mentors.
Job Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. College junior, senior, or recent graduate pursuing or who has obtained a degree in communication, business management, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship or a related field. Insurance concentration a plus. 
 Job Competencies
• Excellent written and verbal communication. • Excellent organizational skills. • Ability to work on a team as well as individually. • Must conduct self professionally; have the ability to effectively build and maintain positive working relationships with management, employees, and peers. • Proficiency in MS office applications a plus.

The position rarely reaches with hands and arms. May lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision for example to view the computer, reading and analyzing data.
