
Public Information Specialist III (Speech and Copy Writer)
HOURS: FULL TIME; Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some evenings and weekends for event coverage.
This position serves as a member of the City's communications team and writes major addresses, brief remarks, and talking points for the Mayor; and serves as the primary contact for the Mayor when it comes to external requests for remarks.
The individual in this position oversees setting speech-prep time and participates in speech meetings; conduct research using internal and external sources in order to write and edit content on a variety of topics; and verifies the accuracy of the information.
Other duties involve writing and/or reviewing copy for website, social media, videos, and other digital content produces by City Communications, as well as news releases and news conferences.
The person in this position works within the City Communications (a division of the Mayor's Office).
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with major coursework in broadcasting, journalism, communications, marketing, business or public administration emphasizing public relations and public information work including some supervisory experience and at least 6 months of experience performing public relations work and/or producing public information materials; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
