Teacher's Assistant (Dominican Republic)

The Esperanza Project is a small non-profit organization located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic in the beautiful town of Cabrera. We are now in the 13th year of our educational program, which involves two schools focused providing high quality, affordable education to local children and teens aged 3 to 18, with both our preschool / kindergarten and our elementary / high school programs.

The position will involve assisting our lead teachers in classes of 10 to 24 students at a time. This could mean working one on one with a struggling student or assisting the class as a whole. This position will also offer the opportunity for you to lead your own classes in areas you are passionate about, from Science to English to Art and everything else that may be of interest to you. The position is flexible dependent on the volunteer’s comfort level and experience with teaching.

As the position is located in the Dominican Republic, students will be living with local families
during the length of their stay, where they will have a private room in the home as well as all of their meals provided. This is at the expense of the volunteer but is all arranged through the organization, along with transportation to and from the home / airport.

The school program runs from Monday to Thursday from 8:00am to 3:30pm and Fridays until 12:00pm, leaving evenings, Friday afternoons, and weekends available for volunteers to explore the local area and really take in the Dominican culture. There are half a dozen beautiful beaches within 20 minutes of the schools, as well as other natural lakes and waterfalls very close by. Within the town there are several restaurants, cafes, bars, parks and a beautiful waterfront boardwalk where volunteers can relax and enjoy their time off.

The Esperanza Project offers the perfect combination of volunteering with the youth of the Dominican Republic, while discovering a new culture and language (Spanish) on this beautiful caribbean island! This position will also provide an excellent addition to your resume / CV for future employment and careers. Position length is flexible.
