‘The Limits’ Podcast Intern - Summer 2022

About the show: Today, the art of celebrity doesn’t quite look like it used to. Now, it’s all about betting on yourself—taking your personal brand, redefining it, making it work for you—and few are better fit to talk about the stakes than father, entrepreneur, ESPN host, and full 180°-maker, Jay Williams. Each week, he’ll go deep with heavy-hitters from the worlds of sports, entertainment, and pop culture to understand the principles of faith, vision, and grit they live by in order to see past doubt and build their empires. From rappers-to-moguls, to talk show hosts-turned-CEOs, you’ll learn the ways that the ultra-successful define, push, and conquer their limits in this study of modern greatness.
About You: You are also a creative person with new ideas about audio. You have some experience or interest in audio and are excited to grow your skills. You’re excited about making something new.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts research, assists in arranging interviews and fact-checking
  • Develops basic technical skills under editorial supervision, such as booking, tape-cutting, recording
  • Follows best practices and DEI in story development, sourcing and booking
  • Writes digital and social media copy, managing all social account for the show
  • Researches and pitches ideas for interviews and segments
  • Other duties as assigned
WHO CAN APPLY?
  • LOCATION: This internship has the flexibility to be onsite at our Washington, DC office, fully remote, and/or a hybrid version of the two based on the intern’s preference. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 
REQUIRED SKILLS 
  • Strong digital media skills, including proficiency in social media as both a newsgathering technique and, especially, as a way to distribute content
  • Thorough knowledge of research tools, including computer access data banks
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. Ability to handle more than one assignment at a time; ability to prioritize, anticipate and communicate effectively.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied shifts
  • Proven ability to consistently work as part of a team, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system

SCHEDULE
  • This position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
