Junior Interior Designer
Reports To: Design Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary: The Junior Interior Designer will create functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces by assessing space requirements, determining optimal furniture placement, and selecting decorative items, all while adhering to relevant blueprint, building code, and inspection requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Works with clients to determine initial goals and requirements for the space to be designed.
- Collaborates with architects, engineers, painters, and builders to further understand how interior space should function, appear, and be furnished.
- Analyzes movement and use patterns of the space. Communicating and executing key administrative tasks including sourcing new vendors for products, lead times, availability and pricing.
- Organize and maintain hotel project samples and sample binders.
- Assist Design Manager in follow up on sample requests and purchase orders
- Assist in design selections – furniture, fabrics, drapery, and finishes
- Follow up on design orders.
- Organize and maintain design library and project files.
- Contact vendors on pricing and lead times.
- Travel to vendor sites to pick up samples in tri county area.
- Assist in completing punch list on FF&E items once project is open for business.
- Ready design presentations for ownership review meetings.
- Assist in overall FF&E purchases.
- Prepares sketches or other visual aids to demonstrate preliminary designs to client.
- Consults with client to select materials, furnishings, and décor.
- Uses design applications to prepare and illustrate final plans.
- Determines timelines and project costs and presents accurate estimates to clients.
- Orders or obtains necessary materials, adhering to project and budget specifications.
- Oversees the installation of materials, furniture, and other design elements.
- Ensures client satisfaction by visiting the project on completion with the client; resolves any complaints or concerns.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends and materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in interior design or related field.
- At least 2 years’ experience as an interior designer working for a commercial or residential developer. Experience in the Hotel / Hospitality, Multifamily and Retail Industry preferred.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and follow-up and carry multiple projects to completion.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment and maintain effective working relationships with contacted agencies, co-workers and management team.
