Tax Staff Accountant
We are currently searching for a Staff Accountant to join our Tax Department.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Staff Accountant should begin developing productive working relationships with client personnel and be motivated to perform work assigned by senior staff, managers and partners. May lead one or more staff, instruct them in work to be performed, review the work completed and direct necessary revisions. Staff Accountants should have an understanding of Marcum’s service offerings. Staff Accountants will have a willingness to learn and ask questions of peers and supervisors. Actively seeks/encourages team members to contribute ideas and identify opportunities to apply the firm's services.
Essential Functions:
- Meets time constraints and client deadlines.
- Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements.
- Directs and instructs staff interns and paraprofessionals, where applicable, in work to be performed.
- Prepares routine correspondence to client for approval and signature of a partner; writes comments for management letters.
- Have working knowledge of financial statements (Income, Balance Sheet, Cash Flows).
- Ability to make trial balance and adjustments.
- Ability to agree sub ledger to trial balance.
- Perform account analysis.
- Ability to run and understand spreadsheets.

- Contributes ideas/opinions to the client teams and others and listens/responds to other team members' views.
- Uses technology to continually learn, shares knowledge with team members, and enhances service delivery.

- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Required
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting, and/or an undergraduate or graduate degree with sufficient course work to achieve CPA certification upon passing the examination.
- Either hold a current and valid CPA license, or be working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA examination.
- 0-1 years of experience working for a public accounting firm, or related business/industry experience to meet special needs.

Other Responsibilities
- Prepares other reports and performs projects and duties as may be assigned.
Working Conditions
- Frequent same day travel for work at client’s offices, meetings and seminars using a personal vehicle.
- Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stay for work at clients, meetings or seminars using personal vehicle.
- Occasional overtime work required throughout the year. Heavy overtime work required from January to April 15; may be in excess of 55 hours per week.
