Health Facilities Surveyor (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment-CLIA) (Job Id 17739)

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Health Facilities Surveyor conducts initial and recertification surveys of CLIA Laboratories. The position determines compliance with state and/or federal regulations for the protection of the public from health and safety hazards. Only currently certified medical technologists will be considered. Salary will be dependent upon the qualifications of the individual hired. 

Travel and overnight stays are required for this position.

This position will be located in either Pierre, Sioux Falls, Rapid City, or Mitchell.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must be a Certified Medical Technologist. Preference will be given to candidates who have passed or be eligible to take the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test (SMQT).

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently; multi-task program activities; learn and clearly convey information to others and check for understanding; sense and understand others’ concerns and feelings; develop self to expand own knowledge, applies it, and shares with others. Preference will be given to individuals with work and/or who have survey experience in Laboratory settings.

Knowledge of:

  • laboratory practices, procedures, and technology;
  • equipment and materials used in a laboratory;
  • technical advances and analytical trends pertaining to laboratories; and
  • agency, state, and federal rules and regulations regarding certification of laboratories, abortion facilities, and rural health care centers. 

Ability to:

  • monitor and inspect laboratory records and facilities;
  • interpret state and federal regulations and pertinent scientific information;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely, including technical and persuasive writing;
  • establish and maintain effectively communication with coworkers and laboratory staff;
  • maintain records and files;
  • make presentations to public entities, build alliances, and negotiate;
  • discern laboratory needs and formulate intervention programs to improve performance;
  • deal tactfully with others; and
  • provide technical assistance to providers and health care professionals.
