Fire Protection Technologist

The Knolls Fire Protection (FP) unit is hiring a Fire Protection Technologist to qualify as a Service Contract Work Administrator (SCWA) and to manage the unit’s service subcontracts. FP provides the engineering resource to support operation, maintenance, and system reliability of the site’s fire protection systems and maintains service contracts for Fire Alarm Control Panels, Sprinkler Systems, Special Suppression Systems, Passive Fire Barrier, and Fire Pump Maintenance. The successful candidate will manage the unit’s service subcontracts (coordinate scheduling and manage contract finances) as well as provide field support and oversight. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and managing system deficiencies with operations and maintenance personnel to provide continued use of our facilities. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a self-directed environment. The mission of the FP unit at the Knolls is to provide timely, high quality, integrated, customer service-based engineering solutions that maintain the site’s fire protection and associated life safety systems.

Required Skills *

Intermediate:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university

Senior:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience  

Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with fire suppression systems
  • Demonstrated experience with fire alarm and detection systems
  • Familiarity with Department of Energy Fire Protection Programs
  • Familiarity with applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
  • Experience with the development of preventive and corrective maintenance work scopes
  • Qualified Service Contract Work Administrator (SCWA)
  • Qualified Limited Radiation Worker (LRW)
  • Strong interpersonal and teaming skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
