Life Skills Instructor

Little City is a nonprofit organization that serves youth, teens, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as those diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum and adults with special healthcare needs.
 
Little City is seeking highly motivated and mission-centered individuals for the position of Life Skills Instructor (DSP/Caregiver/CNA). We currently have a variety of shifts (full-time and part-time).
 
Salary: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
Plus Weekend Shift Differential
 
Job Summary:
  • Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Performs personal care tasks, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, toileting, feeding, and ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks.
  • Fosters positive relationships between caretakers and individuals served.
  • Ensures client safety and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Reminds and assists clients with medications
  • Encourages self-help activities.
  • Reports changes in client’s condition or family situation to supervisors.
  • Documents services provided.
  • Performs home management functions such as housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning.
  • Plans meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals, feeding and clean-up.
  • Accompanies clients to scheduled appointments and transports clients or running errands for clients.

Don’t have any DSP, Caregiver, or residential related care experience? No problem. We provide all the classroom and on the job training! You will receive all the PAID classroom (40 hours) and on the job training (80 hours) you need to be successful in this position.
 
Qualifications:
  • 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid regular Illinois driver's license with a responsible driving record and proof of vehicle insurance
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A desire and passion to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and other challenges in their personal growth
  • Ability to work in a group home, home-like settings
