Entry Level Engineering Technologist

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an Entry Level Engineering Technologist to work at our Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) site, located in Niskayuna, NY!

The Nuclear Test Operations (NTO) team performs post irradiation examinations of fuel, poison and structural test specimens and the evaluation of removed fleet components. Our examination and testing results provide the data needed to make design decisions and create operational limits. NTO data influences technology development, new design and construction, fleet support and spent fuel handling. The Post Irradiation Examinations Operations (PIE-O) Unit operates and maintains the Radioactive Materials Laboratory (RML) Hot Cells and radiological gloveboxes in the KAPL Low Level Examination Facility (KLLEF). Some tasks of the selected candidate include inspection, testing of components, systems, and equipment; tasks associated with the control, accountability of radioactive materials and hazardous waste; and tasks associated with environmental, safety and health with primary focus on safety.

Required Skills *

Associate:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience  

Intermediate:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university

Preferred Skills

  • Current or previous experience as a radiological contamination worker
  • Current or previous experience as a fuel handler
  • Strong teaming skills and ability to work with others
