Assistant Director, Sexual Violence Advocacy and Support Center

The Sexual Violence Advocacy and Support (SVAS) Center is a confidential office on campus offering resources, support services, education, and training to Bridgewater State University’s diverse campus community members for incidents of sexual violence, sexual exploitation, interpersonal violence, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. 

The Assistant Director of the SVAS Center creates, coordinates, and provides programming, including but not limited to: sexual assault, sexual violence, dating violence, harassment, healthy relationships, construction of gender roles, intersectionality, the role of bystander intervention, consequences of perpetrating, applicable state and federal laws, safe use of social media, help-seeking behaviors. This position also oversees the University’s confidential response to campus community members seeking support and knowledge of their rights under Title IX and applicable state law, including providing advocacy, making referrals to community support services, and facilitating Title IX accommodations. This position reports to the Title IX Coordinator.

This is an APA position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
 Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 5:00 
(Evening and weekend hours may be required) 
(Saturday and Sundays as days off, ability to work some Saturdays as needed)

Essential Duties:
1.   Use a multicultural and inclusive framework to partner with the Office of Equal Opportunity/Title IX Coordinator in sexual assault/sexual violence/dating violence, and harassment training, which meets or exceeds the requirements set forth by the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Title IX, and applicable state law. 
2.   Supervise the SVAS Center Graduate Assistant, Peer Educators, and Interns including the hiring, training, mentoring, and review. 
3.   Develop and implement intentional programs, services, social norm campaigns, and activities within the core duties that will meet the unique needs of the diverse campus population.
4.   Establish and coordinate inclusive and equity minded student peer leadership group(s).
5.   Develop and maintain an online and social media presence including Public Service Announcements for campus around topics of health relationships, sexual assault, violence prevention, and bystander intervention. Responsible for on-going development of the Sexual Violence Advocacy and Support Center webpages. Acts as the designated IT liaison for the SVAS Center.
6.   Build and maintain collaborative relationships with referral sources on and off campus outside victim support agencies by fostering increased collaboration for both services and programming.
7.   Serve as the point of contact for Health Imperatives and review and update the MOU on a biennial basis to ensure it meets University needs and is infused with inclusivity, social justice, and intersectional support services.
8.   Oversee the weekly Survivor Support Group conducted by Health Imperatives, refer student participants to counseling, and coordinate on campus counseling sessions between Health Imperatives and students. 
9.   Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with cross-divisional campus departments and student organizations. 
10. Partner with the Title IX Coordinator to maintain an online training module for all first-time students.
11. Provide collaborative programs with other colleges and universities. 
12. Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for the programs, services, and activities within the core duties. 
13. Serve as a confidential support person for campus community member reporting options and resources. 
14. Utilize a case management database to maintain all files and notes for support services provided to campus community members. 
15. Serve as an advisor for campus community members participating in a Title IX investigation. 
16. Utilize diversity and social justice practices to promote student success as it relates to the core duties. 
17. Coordinates with various campus partners on their initiatives concerning violence prevention and education.
18. Maintain SVAS Center supply inventory of educational and promotional materials. 

Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree 
  2. Three years of professional work experience in violence prevention and education, gender violence services, victim advocacy, human services agency, or related capacity.
  3. Commitment to customer service excellence/support to enhance an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with sexual and relationship violence-related issues, including support services and prevention/risk-reduction, programming, and program assessment/evaluation.
  5. Experience working directly with survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence from diverse backgrounds, and providing crisis intervention and ongoing support.
  6. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
  7. Experience that demonstrates the ability to collaborate successfully with a diverse range of people and groups to manage projects, work independently, meet deadlines, and use effective time management.
  8. Strong familiarity with computer processes important for job performance (word processing, PowerPoint, graphic design, email, social media, etc.).
  9. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse student body, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  10. Experience with public speaking and providing intersectional programming to an audience.
  11. Passion for and commitment to social justice, racial justice, civic engagement, and violence prevention.
  12. Availability to provide service outside of regular business hours (i.e. night programing, support groups, etc.). 
  13. Knowledge of developmental needs of university students.
  14. Knowledge of or ability to understand, apply, and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Certification in advocate training for sexual violence, dating violence, and/or domestic violence.
