Title: Intern, Ocean Marine Underwriting
Location: New York
POSITION SUMMARY:
Our intern will receive a detailed overview on Ascot, as well as the Ocean Marine Insurance industry, to ensure that they gain a working knowledge of our business and can meet &/or exceed the goals that will be set for them. The intern will be responsible for working within all 5-product lines, Bluewater Hull, Cargo, Primary Liability, Excess Liability and Craft.
We want our intern to work efficiently; to be challenged daily; to contribute to the team, and to leave with a broad understanding of all functions within underwriting.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• File audits of various marine risks;
• Support underwriters with updating policy files;
• Select submission assignments to allow our intern to assist with web research; provide short descriptions to underwriters; review loss history, vessel schedules, warehouse schedules; generate questions for discussion, etc.;
• Prepare for educational opportunities with underwriters and Ascot can offer guidance on multiple resources.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
• Strong GPA; 3.0 or higher required
• Leadership experience through work or involvement in community service, athletics, clubs, or other activities preferred
• Demonstrable record of high achievement, analytical thinking, self-motivation, and relationship building
• Highly collaborative
• Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Technical aptitude/digital savviness
