The COS Peer Mentor is a student staff member who provides support to incoming and continuing first-year, sophomore, junior, and transfer UTSA students within the College of Sciences. The COS Peer Mentors assist students with their academic adjustment and personal acclimation to UTSA, along with assisting students as they further develop and explore their science identity. They will participate in the facilitation and/or creation of COS SSC events related to formulating a science identity through the outlined programming instruments (research, networking, and essential/applied skills). They will build connections with students by arranging individual meetings and participating in interactive group events and topical discussions. Peer Mentors will be selected on the basis of leadership experiences, communication and interpersonal skills, academic success, the ability to be a referral agent for new campus members, and the capacity to create and foster a peer relationship with students in order to support them throughout their science identity at UTSA.
This position is open to only College of Sciences students.
