Engineering Intern

KBKG, a tax consulting firm, is seeking Engineering Interns to work in our NYC office. The engineer will be responsible for performing fixed asset analyses identifying assets that are eligible for accelerated depreciation. They will review site surveys and blueprints as well as all appropriate historical records and construction cost documents and prepare a full scope cost segregation report. 

What is Cost Segregation?
Cost Segregation provides real estate investors and owners significant tax benefits by accelerating federal tax deductions for buildings and improvements. As a cost segregation consultant, you will analyze all types of properties ranging from hotels, casinos, golf courses, apartments, restaurants, offices, retail and anything in between. The successful candidate will assist investors, business owners, and corporate executives to realize the significant increase in cash flow that results from a quality cost segregation study. In order to do this, one will learn to apply and integrate the skill sets often utilized in the following industries: valuation, engineering, construction management, legal analysis, and tax planning.


Responsibilities include: 
  • Supporting engineers by organizing and reviewing information received from client and identifying what is to be requested. 
  •  Prioritizing and tracking client information requests. 
  •  Preparing and assembling reports that contain write-ups, photographic documentation, and tax opinions on the subject property. 
  •  Developing quantity takeoffs with supervision of engineers. This includes but is not limited to quantity takeoffs from Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing drawings. 
  •  Do site takeoffs using google earth and then input those takeoffs into KBKG’s template. 
  •  Do takeoff of lighting from electrical drawings and then input into KBKG’s template. 
  •  Set up the template for each project with the general information in the appropriate place. 
  •  Assist the engineer in generating an RSM Square Foot model for the project building. 
  •  Assisting with travel coordination for site inspections. 
  •  Assist the engineer in site inspections. The project admin will eventually learn how to conduct a site inspection on their own. 
  •  Scanning engineer notes and downloading inspection pictures to our server. 
  •  Assisting with miscellaneous data entry assignments including converting a PDF to Excel, updating contacts, formatting documents, etc.  

Qualifications: 
  • Currently pursing a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or construction science or similar field
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with construction design and construction processes. The ability to read, interpret, and explain engineering and architectural drawings is required.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products (excel, word, etc.)
