City of Virginia Beach Summer Work Program Department of Public Works - Real Estate

 
Summary: 
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Works Summer Work Program is designed to recruit diverse college students majoring in Real Estate or a related field. The program provides viable full-time work experiences that assist students in making connections between textbook knowledge and real-world experiences. 
 
Position Description: 
The work involves assisting right-of-way agents, researching the indexes in the Clerk’s Office of the Circuit Court to determine ownership as well as answers to real estate related questions that citizens and various city and private agencies may pose; reviewing site and subdivision plans concerning right-of-way to prepare appropriate legal documents; performing minor real estate research; reading and interpreting real estate property plats and road plans including profile and cross section sheets and can coordinate review of preliminary plans for engineering; and related work as assigned. 
 
Minimum Qualifications: 
Candidates must possess a valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver’s license. Must have basic knowledge of real estate theories and practices and be able to use basic Microsoft applications (word, excel, etc.). Students can be enrolled in either an undergraduate or master program in Real Estate, Finance, or a related field.
 
Position Information: 
Candidates will work a 40-hour work program between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for approximately 12 weeks (May 23rd , 2022 – August 8th, 2022). Normal work hours may vary depending on the position. Flexibility for school schedules is allowable. The applicant is responsible to provide their own transportation to work and housing during the summer work program.
 
Compensation: 
Paid Summer Work Program
All selected candidate will be processed by Abacus.

Note: The individuals selected will be employed through a temporary services agency and assigned to the City of Virginia Beach. A drug test and criminal background check, performed by this agency, is required before employment. Summer Workers in the program must also provide a recent DMV driving record prior to employment.
