Pathogen-Host Interactions & Immunology Research & Education Program at LSUHS-S

Diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and other microbial organisms cause widespread suffering throughout the world and in our own communities. At the same time, microbiologists are making breathtaking progress in understanding and combating infectious pathogens through innovative molecular, biochemical, and computational technologies.

To help meet the urgent need for talented new scientists to face these challenges, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport announces the creation of The Phathogen-Host Interactions and Immunology Reseach and Education Program.

Through this competitive summer fellowship program, students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences in cutting-edge biomedical research laboratories at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA, under the mentorship of nationally recognized leaders in microbiology and immunology research.

·    Fellows will work with their mentors to create a scientific question to serve as the focus of their project. They will then use the Fellowship period during the summer to find experimental answers to their question.
·    Late in the summer, Fellows will be invited to participate in the Summer Biomedical Research Symposium to present their research findings.
·    In addition to laboratory research, Fellows will participate along with LSU Microbiology and Immunology graduate students in seminars, journal clubs, and other scientific experiences to deepen their understanding of microbiology and immunology.
·    Stipends ($12/hour) will be provided to all Fellows. Housing options are available

An unofficial undergraduate transcript, personal statement, and the names and contact information of at least two references will be required.

The application deadline is March 31st, 2023.

Program runs from June 12 to August 4, 2023.
