If so, the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is seeking an enthusiastic Environmental Scientist to join our talented team that is passionate about mattress recycling and producer responsibility.
Under general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) to the Carpet, Mattress, Paint Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Unit, the incumbent will be a co-lead responsible for implementation of CalRecycle’s Materials Management and Local Assistance Division’s responsibilities under the Used Mattress Recovery and Recycling Act and perform a variety of scientific and technical work related to CalRecycle’s EPR initiatives. The incumbent will independently perform assigned environmental and natural resource management analysis, research, surveys, investigations, and studies; interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; write final reports; prepare regulatory and compliance documents; enforce environmental law and regulations; prepare non-routine correspondence and answer non-routine questions from the public; and do other related work to implement the Department’s EPR programs. The incumbent will perform a variety of scientific tasks including varied and complex assignments; and provide consultative technical advice to various federal, state, and local government entities and agencies as well as non-governmental organizations and businesses. This position involves travel throughout the state approximately 10% of the time.
