Marketing/Digital Communications

The Marketing/Digital Communications Intern works independently and collaboratively with supervisors, fellow interns and external departments to implement all marketing and promotional strategies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing multiple social media accounts and Lakeside’s blog, generating weekly e-newsletters, updating the website, photographing and promoting events, and providing content for the weekly Lakesider newspaper and blog. This internship requires a working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop; Illustrator, HootSuite and Constant Contact are a plus.

 

All Advancement & Marketing Communications interns will work together on a summer project, exploring a topic that will leave a lasting impact on the department after they leave. The results will be presented to select community and/or board members and will be used by the department to carry out the following year. Details of the topic will be determined at a later date.

 

The ideal candidate possesses excellent writing, design, communications and leadership skills; maintains the ability to work in a team-oriented environment; and is a highly organized, self-motivated individual capable of meeting deadlines.

 

Please note: This internship runs from May 14-August 18 (or later preferred.) This internship also requires flexibility, as the intern is expected to work days, some evenings and weekends, and all summer holidays (Memorial Day weekend and Fourth of July).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES (PLUS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED):

  • Manage multiple social media accounts and update daily (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LLA Facebook group, etc.)

  • Update communications plan and social media/blog content calendar daily

  • Track social media engagement and benchmark competitor activity weekly

  • Compile and schedule weekly e-newsletters

  • Edit and update content on the Lakeside Chautauqua website daily

  • Design handouts, posters and postcards to promote special events

  • Write Orchestra Hall movie summaries

  • Attend weekly social media, blog, e-newsletter and photo meetings

  • Organize marketing communications portfolio

  • Distribute the Lakesider newspaper on Fridays and Saturdays

  • Participate in a departmental assessment project regarding research on proposed topic

  • Organize a roundtable discussion with community members based on assessment project research

  • Assist Photography Intern in photographing special events, working some nights, weekends and all summer holidays

  • Edit and update the policy and procedures manual for the internship position

  • Participate in all LLA activities, forums and gatherings

  • Make an oral presentation to the Lakeside Chautauqua staff regarding summer internship experience

 

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Create infographics for use on website, social media and blog as needed

  • Generate press releases for Lakeside Chautauqua programming and special events

  • Conduct interviews and contribute articles/testimonials for the Lakesider newspaper and the blog

  • Update marketing database with constituent information

  • Assist with community events as needed, including set up, execution and tear down
