Our fast-paced, entrepreneurial Cannabis REIT, Advanced Flower Capital, is seeking an entry level Analyst to join our Underwriting team. We initially began as a family office (and still maintain a family office culture) but now operate as a public listed entity on NASDAQ providing an institutional level execution. This position will report directly to the Director of Underwriting and will have daily exposure to senior management including members of the Investment Committee and the founders of the Company. The candidate will be instrumental in supporting the day-to-day due diligence activities of our lending operations, and will be instrumental in driving forward financial analysis, interaction with Borrowers, and the overall loan closing process. Our company is focused on the exciting, ever-changing, burgeoning cannabis industry, and the candidate will be heavily involved in underwriting real estate (including construction projects), cash flows, licensing frameworks, state and federal regulations, and may have exposure to equipment leasing, sale-leasebacks and other debt-like instruments as part of analyzing potential borrowers.

Responsibilities
1. Financial Analysis and Modeling
  • - Support Associates/VPs in underwriting activities which will include real estate, cash flow, and credit analysis
  • - Organize and maintain Borrower financials and track within due diligence checklist
  • - Format and develop charts, tables, and graphics to summarize findings resulting from financial analysis
  • - Help track construction draws, projects, budgets, etc. with our in-house Construction Manager
2. Due Diligence
  • - Manage the Underwriting team’s data room and coordinate interactions with Borrowers
  • - Manage due diligence checklist and report updates to Associates/VPs and in turn, the Director of Underwriting
  • - Support due diligence calls with the preparation of question lists and key open items lists
  • - Order and assist in reviewing necessary third-party reports such as Quality of Earnings (QoE), Environmental Phase I’s and II’s, Property Condition Reports, Geotechnical Reports, and other critical reports required for loan closings
  • - Schedule calls and follow-ups with Borrowers pre- and post-closing of loans
  • - Assist in Quality Control efforts post-closing of loans by managing internal trackers and providing updates to Associates
3. Support Loan Closings
  • - Oversee all collection of data and information for each mandate, and organize said data effectively for ease of access
  • - Follow up communication with all counterparties involved in the loan closing process via e-mail, phone, and in-person meetings
  • - Manage loan closing tracker and ensure diligence updates are recorded daily and available for Executive Management
  • - Support Associates in drafting of investment committee memoranda and other closing-related activities
  • - Travel for site visits related to due diligence
4. Lead Strategic Initiatives and Collaboration
  • - Seeking improvement of all applicable processes, templates, and systems
  • - Collaborate with peers in other departments in pursuit of business objectives
  • - Be an Underwriting team member resource for the Originations, Portfolio Management and Investor Relations teams

 Qualifications
  • - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related analytical field
  • - Solid understanding of Financial Statements and Real Estate industry (preferred, but not necessary)
  • - Solid understanding of Cannabis Industry (preferred, but not necessary)
  • - Solid analytical skills and quantitative skills
  • - Team player with good communication skills
  • - General accounting knowledge with a strong familiarity of financial statements
  • - Intermediate Microsoft Excel modeling skills; proficiency using PowerPoint and Word
  • - Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, along with strong organization skills and comfortable with ambiguity
  • - Strong work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement
  • - Ability to handle highly confidential/sensitive information
  • - Highly motivated, takes initiative and requires minimal supervision
  • - Willing to travel and work hard for the betterment of the team and firm
