As a Actuary, you will apply professional principles and practices to the actuary work assigned.

What you'll do:

  • Provide practical experience in the application of related knowledge and applies professional and/or management theory, principles, and practices to the actuary work assigned.
  • Assist more senior specialists or works as a team member in the planning and preparation of program rates required by law for the Medicare program.
  • Help and support regarding the development of estimation methodologies and models for historical and program operations, reviews results, and assists with preparing reports.
  • Assist more senior specialists or works as a team member in the planning and preparation of program rates required by law for the Medicare program.

In order to qualify:

A. I qualify based on Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) through one of the following: (1) I am in the upper third of my graduating class, university, or major subdivision; (2) I have a 3.0 higher overall GPA or I have a 3.5 higher GPA in the required courses for my major field of study; or (3) I have been elected into national honor scholastic society; AND I have a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites. B. I have one year of graduate education in the subject areas of actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science; AND I have a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

C. I have a combination of education and experience that includes BOTH of the following requirements: One year of actuarial experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level that include: 1) Assisting in applying actuarial techniques (e.g., pricing, valuation, asset/liability management, or risk management); 2) Participating in the planning and preparation of reports, statistical material and/or mathematical documentation; AND 3) Communicating information to others (e.g. performing presentations, trainings, discussion, etc.) AND I have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four-year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

D. I have successfully completed one of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) or the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) examination, or received credit for one of the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) examinations; AND I have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four-year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
