KWQC-TV6 is a dominant NBC affiliate, serving Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois as the Quad Cities’ #1 station for news, information and entertainment programming. Our sports team covers everything from the PGA’s John Deere Classic to the world-class Bix 7 road race to Single-A baseball, and Big 10 and Big 12 sports. The most important thing to cover to us, though, is the vast array of high-school sports in both Illinois and Iowa. Our sports team consists of great storytellers searching for the next opportunity to make people a fan of a team or sport. Many times, our sports coverage makes the A-block in a newscast and drives the social engagement online. Our team stands out for their personality on-air, creativity and dedication to sports journalism.
JOB DESCRIPTION: KWQC-TV6 is looking for a digital-savvy sports reporter who also has a personality that can win over an audience on the TV screen. This person will help coordinate coverage of games, but have a flexible-enough schedule to chase stories that will make people sports fans. He/she must have experience in talking with coaches/players and their families. He/she must know how to shoot for both television while engaging with followers on social media at the same time on the sidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS: The qualified applicant will have a college degree with previous experience in a newsroom as a NEWS or SPORTS reporter. Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable. An ideal candidate has experience going live on television.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift and/or carry and manage news photography and lighting equipment. You are also frequently exposed to outside conditions.
